Matthew was the guest attorney on LawCall on WLBT, the Jackson area NBC affiliate. Matthew was the featured attorney for the show’s special Valentine’s edition, appropriately called Love & the Law. Matthew answered family law questions live, on air. It was a great show!
Matthew presented at the Guardian Ad Litem Training Seminar in Jackson, MS. at Mississippi College School of Law. This Continuing Legal Education, CLE, is intended for lawyers who serve as GALs in Mississippi to receive or renew their certification for Court purposes. Matthew presented on GAL Custody Evaluations and How to Conduct GAL Investigations. Matthew will be presenting on these topics again at the May 2013 GAL Training to another group of lawyers who will bee seeking certification.
Matthew began his term as President of the Madison County Bar Association and Judge Cynthia Brewer was the first speaker of the year at the monthly meeting. Judge Brewer discussed MRCP Rule 77(d), as well as spoke about the History of the Madison County Chancery Court.
Matthew accepted a position as Board member for the Mississippi Legal Services Corporation. Legal Services is an organization who’s mission is to serve low income families in Mississippi that have civil legal needs.
Matthew was named to the Rising Stars list of young attorneys by Super Lawyers (Mid-South) and Memphis Magazine.
Matthew has been invited to be on the Faculty as a presenter at the Sterling Educational Services Seminar- 3rd Annual Hot Tips Family Law CLE in June 2013, in Jackson, Mississippi. Matthew will present on handling family law matters in an Ethical manner and on Joint/Shared Custody Arrangements.
Matthew has been invited to speak at a Family Law 101 seminar being hosted by the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project. This seminar will be held at the law firm of Copeland, Cook, Taylor and Bush in Ridgeland, MS. Matthew will be presenting on Contempt and rights with regards to enforcing Court Orders. This particular seminar is focused on training lawyers who handle other areas of the law so that they can accept Pro Bono cases on behalf of the MVLP.
Matthew participated in a Domestic Violence CLE, hosted by the Jackson Young Lawyers and featured Heather Wagner and Paula Broom, both attorneys with the State Attorney General’s office. After the CLE, the attorneys present met with Women in Transition from Catholic Charities and Sims House.
Matthew presented at a CLE at the Mississippi Bar Center. He addressed updates in the law and practical tips related to Divorce, Guardianship and Adoptions. All areas that TLF’s practice covers.
Matthew spoke at the Mississippi Bar – Family Law Hot Tips from the Experts seminar. This presentation was on the methods for valuing businesses for divorce and martial division purposes.
Matthew participated in a Fathers; Know Your Rights seminar, hosted by the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project. The seminar was held on June 12, 2012. Matthew spoke on father’s rights concerning child custody, visitation, support and related issues. Matthew was also featured on the radio station WLEZ 100.1 FM promoting the seminar.
Matthew completed the Leadership Training Forum hosted by the Mississippi Bar. This forum seeks to identify future bar leaders and provide training and mentoring in furthering the professionalism of law practice.
Matthew has been invited to speak at the Hot Tips Family Law Seminar. This event is hosted by the Family Law Section of the Mississippi Bar. The seminar will be held on June 1, 2012, at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Matthew will be presenting on business valuation methods for marital businesses.
Matthew Thompson selected to participate in the Mississippi Bar’s Leadership Forum 2012. This event is a 5-month training and leadership forum designed to train and hone the future leaders of the Mississippi Bar. It includes sessions on the history of the Mississippi Bar Association, the Courts, Ethics, Public Service and the Executive and Legislative branches of Government.
Matthew Thompson elected president-Elect of the Madison County Bar Association. Matthew has been a member of the Madison County Bar since being admitted into law practice and served as a board member the past year. Matthew will serve as President-Elect for 2012 and will serve as President of the Madison County Bar Association for 2013.
Matthew will be presenting on Mediating the Family Law Case. This presentation will be to a group of lawyer/mediators and required Continuing Legal Education for Mediators in Mississippi.
Matthew will be presenting Irreconcilable Differences Divorce 101.This is a training seminar presented by the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project, of which Matthew participates, and is hosted by Baker Donelson law firm. Matthew will be training non-family law attorneys on the ins and outs and how to handle Irreconcilable Differences divorces in Mississippi.
Matthew will be preparing Wills, Advanced healthcare Directives and Power of Attorneys for First Responders. This is a part of theWills for Heroes program put on by the Mississippi Bar Association and the Young Lawyers.
Matthew Thompson to Speak at ABA 5th Circuit Spring Meeting
Matthew Thompson has been invited by the American Bar Association to speak at the 5th Circuit Spring Meeting and Governor Election for the Law Student Division on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Mississippi College School of Law, 151 East Griffith Street, Jackson, Mississippi.
The speaker’s will address the concerns of soon to be law grads, “With today’s economic downturn affecting both Wall Street and Main Street, law students are anxious to learn the scope of the legal profession and how the economy will affect their prospects for finding employment once they graduate. Now more than ever, law students have told us that they want to meet and hear from practicing attorneys about how to best manage their legal education and plan for their future careers.” American Bar Association.
